Vicarage Newry
26 Aug. 1919

My Dear Phil,

On thinking it over, I do not know that I have enough Beatty information to warrant the expense of a journey here to see it. So I used the leisure brought about by a combination of neuralgia and a wet day yesterday to write out what I have, & send you the result.
I have only copied the beginning of the Rev. John Beatty’s family account, which wrong as it is, is valuable as showing that he gives William, John, Edward & Martin in the first set of brothers who all appear in the will of Barbara 1701. he is wrong of course in deriving the Springtown branch from the same brothers, but in Barbara we may have the ancestress of the Dingens (?) people and perhaps of Sir David. It is strange that he should have the tradition of the 7 brothers too.
I send a note of Bills not looked up. I am not at all sure that I have made an exhaustive search for Beatty bills. In fact I think I had no record of the Exch. Bill 1741/2 John B. v. David B. & Wm. Trimble, which you have sent me. So there may well be a Bill in which your desired Edward appears between his m[arriage] in 1740 & his death in 1794.
I don’t send you notes of the Bills Emor v. Beatty which you looked up for me. May have to do with Charles of Dublin who m. Eliz. Edgeworth, & don’t touch on Edward.

Now good hunting at the Reg. of Deeds,
Yours Ever,
H. B. Swanzy

There was a Pakenham Beatty, Ens. 68th Foot 8 March, 1780 (Army list 1780). I can’t place him.
