Chapter I. Main Stem
John Beatty, of Farranseer, Killeshandra, co. Cavan, held the lands of Corr under the Hamilton family of Killeshandra, and the lands of Lasken, Co. Longford. There was a great difference of age among his children, as John the eldest m. in 1663, and he calls Charles and Arthur his “two little sons” in 1681. His will, dated 5 Nov. 1681, was pr. in the Prerog. Court 20 Dec. 1681. He mentions seven sons, two daus. and a son-in-law, Martin Armstrong. So he had 7 sons and 3 (sic) daus:--
I. John, of whom presently.
II.. Francis Beatty, inherited Farranseer from his father.
III. Samuel Beatty, inherited, with his brother Robert, his father’s interest in the lands of Gortindoragh; d. under age, intestate, soon after his father, aged (sic) 6 yrs.
IV. Robert Beatty, of Gortindarragh (sic), Co. Fermanagh “formerly of Co. Cavan,” and sometimes of Co. Fermanagh, signified in Flanders, admon. gtd. to Charles Beatty the brother, in dio. of Clogher 26 Aug. 1717.” He was killed at the Siege of Aier (sic) in Flanders, 1710, leaving a natural son Francis Beatty, a Bombadier (sic) Royal Artillery, who d. at Gibraltar 1727.

VI. Charles Beatty, of Farranseer, Co. Cavan. High Sheriff, co. Cavan 1721, J.P. Co. Cavan 29 July 1717, Lieut. in Brigadier Gen. Ross’s regt. of Royal Irish Dragoons [5th Dragoons] 20 July 1695, Capt.-Lieut., commission as such reserved 1 June 1715, by George I, served at Blenheim, Ramillies, and Malplaquet, and received £27 bounty for Blenheim (Dalton’s army?? list). He m. Mary, sister of James Bredin, of Snake Hill, co. Cavan, and calls her in his will, an “aged, sickly and infirm woman.” He d.s.p. Jan. 1731-2, will dated 7 Jan, pr. in the dio. of Kilmore 14 Jan.
VII. Arthur Beatty, of Lacken, Co. Longford, He had been a trooper in Woolsly: Horse see p. 26 and afterwards of Farranseer (by inheritance from his bro. Charles). He was buried at Killeshandra 9 May 1741; will dated 8 April 1741, pr. in the dio. of Kilmore 11 Dec. and had by his wife Martha dau. of James Cairnes of Claremore, Co. Tyrone & niece of Olaird [David?] Cairnes ???? for his defense of Derry in 1689. He was buried at Killeshandra 18 April 1743 (sic)). 3 sons and a dau.
3. William Beatty, to whom he left various things, including “one large Ovall (sic) Table I brought out of the County of Longford.”
1. John Beatty, a party to a deed 19 March 1732, with his father, in the lands of Annagh, by which he got Farranseer, but was dis-inherited (sic) in his father’s will, because he “hath been disobedient and behaved in such manner as he is not intitled (sic) to my favour (sic).”
2. David Beatty, of Annagh, parish of Kilmore, Co. Cavan, inherited Farranseer from his father, and had, with at least one other son buried at Killeshandra 29 Dec. 1749, at his own death, buried at Killeshandra 19 Nov. 1772, a son:--Arthur Beatty, buried at Killeshandra 8 June 1770.
