Morgan Ball of Castlepollard, Co. Westmeath, farmer, aged 57. Knows Plt. for 14 or 15 years; knows Defts. Pakenham, Charles & Robert Beatty, Ann Beatty widow, Alex. Burrows, Robert McNally and Anne his wife these 2 years & particularly Alex. Burrows for 5 years. Knew John Beatty of Springtown, Co. Longford, gent. dec'd for 20 years before his death in 1729; has heard that one Wm. Halfpenny was put in gaol for arrear of rent for Tromroe by Deft Alex Burrows by direction of the Defts the Beattys, for £20 debt, which debt he paid & has since been released. [Signed] Morgan Ball.
Robert Beatty of Springtown, Co. Longford, gent., aged 38, knows all parties, except the minors, for 20 years; knows the minors John and Catherine Beatty there 3 years. Knew John Beatty of Springtown, Co. Longford, gent., dec'd for 12 years before his death in May 1729; that he died possessed of certain household goods, and farm stock of which Defts Pakenham and Charles Beatty possessed themselves, and also of the lands of Springtown Co. Longford, and Trumroe, Co. Westmeath; that Springtown was then worth £44 profit yearly and is now worth £65; that at the time John Beatty died there were 37 years of the lease of Springtown unexpired and 4 or 5 years of Trumroe; corroborates the imprisonment of Halfpenny. This Dep't told Ainger Brock the Plt's brother that this Dep't would give Plt. £60 in case Plt. would publicly marry Ann Beatty alias Brock this Dept's sister, he the Plt. having often before that time declared that he the Plt. was not married to said Ann Beatty alias Brock. There was an article executed by Deft. Pakenham Beatty with John Beatty, dec'd, about a month before the latter's death, whereby Pakenham was to pay £300 or £400 for the lands of Springtown and Tromroe, except 20 or 30 acres of demesne(?) land about the mansion house of Springtown, during the life of said John Beatty, dec'd, but that said article was never executed and that none of the tenants on said lands were disturbed on account of said articles: that said articles were destroyed, but was however in being at or after the death of John Beatty and in custody of Claud Beatty, since deceased, and same was cancelled by said Claud Beatty three or four days after John Beatty died by virtue of mutual consent and direction of John and Pakenham Beatty before he died because of a dispute between them concerning same. Was present when John Beatty's goods were valued by Andrew McCally, William Thompson and Charles Young, and all goods John Beatty died possessed of were produced except 4 or 5 dry cows. Knew Isabella Beatty, lately deceased, one of the daughters of said John Beatty, she having died about 3 years ago at Pakenham Hall, Co. Westmeath, but does not know if she left a will of if Deft.
