Chapter III.
The Rev. John Beatty, Rector of Donaghcloney, b. abt. 1796, wrote an account of his family, which certainly is not correct in the earlier part. He says that there were seven brothers who served with Sir Francis Hamilton at the siege of Derry, viz: William, David, Robert of Coolarty, John of Dingens, Edward, Martin and one not known. These could only have been the sons of John Beatty of Faranseer, who d. 1681 and his will proves that the list is incorrect. From Robert he traces the Beattys of Springtown, whose true descent from John son of the original John is given in Chapter I. He says that John was the father of his ancestor Edward. There is no doubt that an Edward Beatty of Corr is frequently mentioned, but the Chancery bill of 30 June 1770, Edmund Beatty, junior v. Edmund Beatty senior and others, states that name of the owner of Corr was Edmund. Whoever was the father of Edward, the following is the pedigree as proved, the first generations Edward and his younger sons resting on the authority of the Rev. John Beatty.
BEATTY of DINGENS.
