The son of Edward Beatty of Dingens [Dingins ?] was:-
The Rev. John Beatty of Dingens, co. Cavan,Vicar of Garvaghy, dio. Dromore 1778 -98, formerly Curate of Knockbride, Co. Cavan, 29 April 1754, Curate of Killeshandra 2 July 1768, b. in co. Cavan about 1727, educated by Mr. Hughes, was a schoolfellow of Oliver Goldsmith's at Edgeworthstown, and afterwards shared rooms with him at 35 T.C.D. (Forster's Life of Goldsmith). He entered T.C.D. as sizar 11 June 1744, age 17, Sch 1747, B.A. 1749, m firstly at Killeshandra, 23 Aug. 1760, Abigail, sister of James Young of Lahard, co. Cavan, High Sheriff, co Cavan 1767, and dau. of Mathew Young of Lahard, by Frances, dau. of William Nesbitt, of Dromaler, co. Cavan, High Sheriff co. Cavan 1704. By her, who was buried at Killeshandra 22 Nov. 1767, he had two sons and two daus. Rev. John Beatty m secondly Eleanor, widow of Robert Beatty of Springtown, co. Longford, and dau. of [    ] Thompson, by whom he had a son, Edward, bapt. at Killeshandra 5 April 1772, d young. He d about 1809, having had by his first wife, Abigail Young, two sons and two daus:-
   I. Thomas Beatty (Rev.) Vicar of Moira, dio. Dromore 1829, formerly Curate of Garvaghy 1794, and Vicar of Tullylish, co. Down 1813, J.P. co. Down, b. in co. Longford about 1762, educated there by his father, entered T.C.D. 6 July 1779, aged 17, B.A. 1785, m his first cousin Letitia, dau of Capt. Robert Armstrong, 50th Regt. of Hackwood, co. Cavan, by Dorothy, dau. of Mathew Young of Lahard, and d.s.p. 28 Sept. 1841, in his 80th year. His wife d at Garvaghy Glebe, 30 Aug. 1833.

   I. Frances Beatty, m Rev. Arnold Cosby, M.A. of Beeks Court, co. Cavan, Rector of Killinkere, dio. Kilmore, oldest son of Thomas Cosby of Beeks Court, High Sheriff, co. Cavan 1765, by Catherine, dau. of Capt. William Stopford, 1st Horse, brother of James, first Earl of Courtown, and by him, who d 19 Jan. 1817 had issue.
   II. Catherine Beatty, bapt. at Killeshandra 23 Feb. 1768 (after her mothers death), buried there 30 March 1771.
The second son of Rev. John Beatty and Abigail Young, was:-
John Beatty, M.D. of Molesworth Street, Dublin, and of Dingens, m. Nov. 1792, Mary, 4th dau of Henry Betagh, of Dublin, solicitor, and d 18 June 1831, aged 66, in ? at St. Annes, Dublin, having had 16 children, of whom 5 sons and one dau. grew up. Viz:-
   I. John, of whom presently. 16 Molesworth St. and 18 Marrion Sq.
   II. Thomas Edward Beatty of Dublin, entered T.C.D. 1 Nov. 1813, aged 14, B.A. 1818, M.D. (Honoris Causa) 1863, President of the Royal College of Surgeons 1850-51, m firstly at Berne, 29 Sept. 1823, Margaret, dau. of Edward Mayne, Justice of the Court of King's Bench, Ireland, by Sarah, dau. of John Fiddes, and secondly 1827, Maria Catherine Colbourne, eldest dau. of Capt. John Mayne, and d. 3 May 1872, having had by his second wife, who d at 6 Laird Terrace, Plymouth, 15 Nov. 1873, with another dau. who d in infancy, a son and dau:-
   1. John Calcolt? Beatty, b 15 July 1828, educated at Bromsgrove School, m his first cousin Isabella, dau. of Rev. John Beatty, Rector of Donaghcloney.
